Our Mission.

Our individual counseling sessions have at their foundation the goal of helping people to become authentic, self-aware, and interconnected. We aim to help our clients attain choiceful mastery over their past in order to live in the present. We have therapists from a broad range of life experience, interests, education, and training, and our approach is tailored to meet each client where they are and respond to their individual challenges and needs. While the therapists at PMA source from a variety of modalities and approaches, our mission is a relational and dialogical approach to psychotherapy.

  • We approach family therapy holistically, treating the entire system. The family system is comprised of relationship dynamics, expectations, intergenerational patterns and trauma, and communication habits. When one person in the family is struggling, it impacts the whole system, and our intersubjective approach means that each person takes responsibility for the part they play in the system. This approach means that we require the family to collaborate and work together to create meaningful and sustainable change.

  • Being a child is inherently a vulnerable and highly sensitive developmental stage. Childhood is a crucial time for emotional literacy, self-soothing, self-regulation, and at times it can be difficult for adults to understand how best to support their child. Children do not possess higher order thinking or linguistic skills, and so they use behavior to express what is happening for them. That might mean that they are struggling at school, having difficulty with peers, or exhibiting behavior that is concerning to those around them. We help children to organize and understand the world around them and to begin to give them language to talk about their experience. We utilize talk therapy, play therapy, mindfulness, and somatic therapy to help children become more aware and make new choices.

  • Being a teenager is a time of immense growth and change. During adolescence, children undergo significant hormonal, developmental, relational, and social developments. Though these changes are normal and can be exciting, they can also be accompanied with challenges. Teens may experience heightened emotions, peer pressure, identity confusion, and behavioral changes. PMA works with teens and parents to understand and embrace these transitions.

  • Whether you are married, engaged, or in a committed relationship; relationship dynamics can be confusing and difficult at any stage. Many couples feel that coming to therapy means that the relationship is in trouble, however, couples therapy can be an incredibly supportive intervention for any couple to help deepen intimacy and connection. At PMA we view relationships as an opportunity to heal the past and to move into new ways of being in relationship in the present. In keeping with Imago Relationship Therapy, we support couples to find new ways to have old conversations. The aim in couples therapy is for you both to begin to develop a culture of positivity, good-will, and high regard for one another; to work as a team to move through challenges; and to take responsibility for your history and your part in the relationship dynamic.
